You can find us in the heart of downtown – on the corner of historic 6th Street and San Jacinto Blvd.
507 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX, 78701 – to be exact. Meaning we're smack dab in the middle of all the top tier downtown Austin hotels and even walkable from some.
What are the backspace's hours?
We open at 5pm daily and close at 9pm Sunday through Thursday and at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. This gives you plenty of time to grab a delicious pizza and antipasti with a group (or a hot date) before catching your favorite comedian down the block at Comedy Mothership or seeing your favorite musician across the street at historical music venue, Antone's.
What type of food does the backspace serve?
Only the best Neapolitan pizza in town! When we opened our doors 15 years ago, we were the first Neapolitan pizzeria in Austin. We proudly make all our own dough in house with imported Italian flour, blend our sauce to perfection with San Marzano tomatoes, and offer an all-Italian wine list and local craft beer to wash it all down.
What is the backspace best known for?
We think everything is great here – but we’re obviously most popular for our fresh tasting pies that are cooked in our specialty crafted wood burning brick oven. While we're confident our pizza is great as is – our crew has come up with great hacks to elevate them and make them your own! Our salads use local produce, are fresh and light, and are perfect for sharing. Our house-made meatballs also shouldn’t be missed. Pro-tip: save room for dessert! We make all those in house too, and they are the perfect size to help satiate that sweet tooth before you explore downtown 😉

What kind of vibe is the backspace?
We're a little bit cozy, a little bit rustic-chic, a lotta bit intimate - and on more than one occasion we've been called "the perfect date spot". The flow of service is centered around our wood fired brick-oven with the fire's glow illuminating our intimate space. We have been known as a peaceful local gem that makes you feel like you just walked into one of the best kept secrets in the heart of a bustlin downtown. Does the backspace offer gluten free pizza? What about accommodating other dietary restrictions?
Yes! We offer a house made gluten free dough that you may substitute on any of our pizzas, and most of our other dieshes and antipasti's can be adjusted to accommodate most dietary restrictions. Just as your server - we're always happy to do our utmost to help!
What is the bar situation at the backspace?
We're firm believers that the best pairing for a classic Neapolitan-style pizza is a delicious glass of Italian wine. That's the reason we have made it our mission to curate an all-Italian wine list with a focus on female wine makers for our by the glass options. We also offer Peroni (the best Italian lager) and a few locally crafted beers.
Does the backspace offer happy hour specials?​
We love a good happy hour - that's why we have one of the best in town! Half-off glasses of wine (or share a bottle of one of our by the glass options!), beer, and all antipastis daily from 5pm - 6pm.
Can I host a private event or larger party at
the backspace?
The only thing we love more than a good happy hour is a great party! Especially if there's pizza. Our intimate and beautiful space is available for private events and can accommodate up to 50 guests. Have a larger group? Let us bring the pizza party to you! We cater as well as have an awesome portable pizza oven that lets us make our one-of-a-kind pizzas from the location of your choice. Trust us...it's always a hit!
